About the Artist

Psychoanalyst and photographer Joanna Andraos explores the spheres of the intimate and the collective, the narration of affects and their representations. The series Anatomy of Feelings examines the mechanisms of speech, listening, and our shared and divergent emotions experienced in Lebanon and the region from 2020 to the present day. How can one represent what has been expressed or left unsaid, heard, guessed and of course missed? What memorial and sensory imprint has the analytic and artistic practice left behind? This exploration takes the form of a journal, at once that of a photographer and an analyst. Through a non chronological flow, Joanna Andraos transposes and retraces the emotional dynamics of our psyche. Page after page, she reconstructs narratives, weaves connections, probes words, gathers traces and forms of pain. Through a chain of free associations, she questions the ways in which memories, perceptions and emotions crystallise. Water cycles appear in filigree as a metaphor for psychic movements, both conscious and unconscious.
