Georges Haddad
Georges Haddad, Visual artist born, raised and existing in Beirut. Working primarily with neon, plastic, glass, metal and wood. After graduating from the Lebanese University with a BA in Advertising in 2007, i briefly worked in the post production field. I then joined my uncle‘s neon atelier GYRONEON in Jemmayzeh, where i developed my passion and skill in working with both neon and mixed materials to create works that express the constantly evolving chaos that surrounds existing in Beirut. Unfortunately, GYRONEON‘s atelier was destroyed by the Beirut port explosion in August 2020 and never reopened. Since 2020, i produce my neon works through other ateliers in Lebanon. The neon industry is dying but i keep trying with this medium as much as i can. There is a parallel between a dying Beirut and a dying medium like the neon, they both have a lot of potential and carry a lot of emotions and creativity, and i keep fighting for both to stay alive. That‘s the core belief and conviction that inspires and drives me as an artist.
